Andrea Mitchell
Andrea Mitchell is an American television journalist anchor and commentary anchor for NBC News based in Washington D.C. After growing up in New York City, Mitchell received a degree in English literature from the University of Pennsylvania. Mitchell was hired by KYW Radio and TV as a Philadelphia reporter in the year 1967. In 1976 she was a part of the CBS affiliate WDVM-TV in Washington DC (then WTOP). She was promoted to Washington general correspondent to NBC News two years later. In 1981 she began covering the White House. In 1988, she became the chief reporter for Congress. She was appointed the chief White House correspondent by NBC News, in 1992. Mitchell was a panelist as well as anchor of the TV show Meet the Press. Mitchell was a panelist during 1988's presidential debates, which pitted George Bush against Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is the spouse of Alan Greenspan who was former chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell was awarded numerous honors for journalism excellence, including her Goldsmith Career Award from John F. Kennedy School of Government in 2005. The award was presented to her by the Leonard Zeidenberg Award by Radio-Television News Directors Association in 2004. Mitchell initially covered in the White House for NBC News from 1981 to 1988, during both Ronald Reagan's presidency. She covered many notable issues, such as the arms control, budget taxes as well as the Iran Contra scandal. Mitchell also attended various summits while in the company of President Reagan with Mikhail Gorbachev.
